Exciting Summer Updates from the Farm!

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks here at the farm, with lots of new arrivals, wonderful experiences, and even a bit of podcast attention!

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve successfully hatched some beautiful Lincolnshire Buff chicks as part of our ongoing breeding programme. These rare and charming birds are a real local treasure, and we’re proud to play a part in conserving and promoting the breed.

We were recently featured in the South Ormsby Estate blog! It was such a joy to be recognised for the work we’re doing. You can read the full article here:

We’ve also been out and about in the community, attending local school fairs and talking to lots of enthusiastic young people, parents, and carers. It’s always a pleasure to share what we do and to meet new people!

Amy also had the opportunity to create a podcast talking all about what we are doing at The Farm School, the podcast was with #Lincslivesnatters!

Back at The Farm School, we’ve welcomed some fantastic new additions!
🐥 Our runner ducks have settled in nicely and are already making themselves at home.
🐰 And we’re delighted to introduce Juniper and Nibbles, two lovely rabbits who were kindly donated by Zoe from the Grimsby Institute Animal Care Department. A huge thank you to Zoe – they’ve already become firm favourites!

There’s never a dull moment here, and we’re so grateful for all the support from our community. Stay tuned for more updates soon.

June 2025!

🌿 Big News from the Farm School! 🌿

Since our last update, so much has happened, and we’re thrilled to finally share it with you!

We’ve officially secured a fantastic new site at the stunning South Ormsby Estate! This beautiful location is not only rich in heritage but also passionate about supporting new businesses and building strong connections with education and the local community. We couldn’t have found a better home!

🚜 What’s Happening on the Ground?

We’re now the proud stewards of 2 acres of lush pasture land and a spacious barn, perfect for keeping our visitors warm, dry, and well fed. Whether it’s lunch or hands-on learning, we’re creating a space that’s both welcoming and inspiring.

Even more exciting, we’ve taken the reins of the estate’s graduate programme and the ever popular Saturday Club, where teens come to explore, grow, and develop new skills in a vibrant, supportive environment.

🐣 Meet Our Feathered Friends

We’re also thrilled to announce that we’ve become custodians of the estate’s hatchery, home to a delightful flock of Lincolnshire Buff chickens. These birds are not only rare and beautiful; they’re also a brilliant addition to our educational offerings.

Our hatchery journey has officially begun, with 20 eggs currently incubating! We can’t wait to meet the fluffy new arrivals.

Want to follow their journey? Head over to Facebook: Wood Farm Poultry and join us for all the adorable updates!

🍰 Farm Fresh Eggs & Sweet Collaborations

We’re now supplying our fresh eggs to the amazing Cake Shack in Belchford. If you haven’t tried their cakes and sweet treats yet, you’re seriously missing out, they’re delicious!

🌾 Out and About

Last weekend, we had an incredible time exhibiting at Open Farm Sunday at Sutton Estates.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with potential service users, fellow businesses, and passionate people from the local area. Our little helpers had a blast too!

🎒 What’s Next?

As our site continues to grow, we’re excited to offer limited free taster sessions for schools and education providers. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to drop us a message or email, we’d love to welcome you!

And yes, holiday clubs are coming this summer! These are always a hit, so keep an eye out for dates and book early to avoid missing out.

 April 2025!

What an April it has been! If only we’d known 18 months ago that everything we wished for would come to fruition, we just had to be patient!

When Lauren and I embarked on developing the concept of The Farm School, we anticipated that identifying the ideal foundation for its successful operation would be challenging. The journey proved to be more complex than expected, involving various considerations, generous proposals, and multiple modifications to our plan based on available opportunities. After extensive evaluation and efforts, we have come full circle and believe we have finally achieved the optimal solution.

We are now in discussions with a local landowner in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds and will be agreeing the heads of terms imminently, so watch this space for the exciting announcement!

Exhibition stand at Countryside Lincs

Meanwhile, we have been dedicating our time to other activities that have contributed to the development of our concept, business acumen, and professional network. On April 4th, we had a productive day at the Countryside Lincs event held at the Lincolnshire Showground. We set up an exhibit in the ‘Education Zone’ and engaged with numerous families, group leaders, teachers, home educators, and occupational therapists throughout the day. The Farm School received positive feedback from all those we interacted with, providing us with valuable insights to enhance our offerings moving forward.

The sun shone throughout the day as our children diligently assisted others in planting sunflowers to take home and provided guidance on their care. They also contributed to gathering valuable market research by engaging with children on our question board to assess their knowledge of farming and the countryside. Our girls exemplify the farm school ethos; despite typically being quiet and introverted individuals who may face challenges in social situations, they demonstrated remarkable confidence and enthusiasm in discussing the benefits of outdoor learning.

We loved being a part of this fabulous event and will aim to include it within our annual Calendar!

During Easter, Amy has had the pleasure of assisting the wonderful Lincolnshire Farm School in their holiday clubs. Seeing first hand the pleasure children get from spending a day on the farm is invaluable. Children get stuck in with all of the jobs throughout the day as well as a good amount of time spent playing in the straw barn! They build their team work skills, communication, confidence and generally go home feeling tired, dirty and with a hair full of straw! What could be better!!

Just one final piece of news before concluding this blog. The Farm School now holds accreditation to host educational visits. Amy completed her CEVAS course recently, which means visitors can be assured that The Farm School is a safe place to visit, and their groups will receive educational sessions that align with the National Curriculum. The Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme consists of a two-day course held on a working dairy farm and a portfolio of evidence that must meet specific learning outcomes. This also opens up opportunities for funding to support these visits, which can be beneficial for schools currently experiencing financial constraints.  We are now able to display the CEVAS badge.
